Wonder Woman 1984 Director Has One Big Requirement for Wonder Woman 3

Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins has one big requirement before committing to third Wonder Woman film

Patty Jenkins became one of the hottest directors in Hollywood after finding success with 2017’s Wonder Woman, capturing all the magic and lure of the popular DC Comics superheroine for the first time on the silver screen.

She returned to the franchise to direct and co-write Wonder Woman 1984, which will stream this month on HBO Max and has been released in the small amount of places still showing movies.

That last fact may keep her from returning for a third film. According to the New York Times, Jenkins was noncommittal about any involvement in Wonder Woman 3, which seems a sure thing at this point.

“We’ll see what happens. I really don’t know,” the director said. “I know that I’d love to do the third one if the circumstances were right and there was still a theatrical model possible. I don’t know that I would if there wasn’t.”

This confirms what she’s said in the past, when she’s revealed she wasn’t certain if she would do a third movie, even though according to CBR.com, she already has a story in mind for the proposed project.

Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot as the Amazon Princess, and back again are Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. Early reviews have been positive.

The story follows Diana who while working at the Smithsonian Museum in the year 1984, is in desperate deadly danger in the face of an enormous conspiracy of the businessman Max, who sings loudly to fulfill people’s desires, and a mysterious foe, Cheetah. Naturally, her alter ago is needed to save the day.

Jenkins co-wrote the film with DC veteran Geoff Johns and The Expendables writer David Callaham. Jenkins will also direct the upcoming Star Wars film, Rogue Squadron, and is one of the most in-demand directors out there today. Her not returning to the Wonder Woman franchise would be a big blow.
