The Rings of Power Star Defends Galadriel Action Scenes

A show or movie can be potentially flawless but some fans can still voice their opinions about certain things they personally don’t like and there’s nothing wrong with that. That’s freedom of speech. As for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series on Amazon Prime Video, an elf character named Galadriel is one of the talking points of the show since its two-episode premiere on September 1.

Many fans still identify Galadriel with Kate Blanchett’s version from the original trilogy. Blanchett’s Galadriel spends most of her screen time lecturing The Fellowship of the Ring.  The Rings of Power takes place thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The much, much younger Galadriel played by Morfydd Clark displays more of an aggressive, warrior-type elf who’s out kicking some ass with badass sword-wielding skills. Galadriel has a lot more action scenes and some fans aren’t used to it. At least, not yet.

In a new interview with Variety, Clark shares Galadriels character evolution throughout the ages in Middle-earth. “I would say that her serenity is hard earned. I don’t think you get to that level of wisdom without going through things,” Clark told Variety. “She actually speaks about [how] with wisdom, there is a loss of innocence, which was a really good thing for me to find in the lore. Because, like, how young are you when you’re still thousands of years old? So it was thinking of what innocence she lost during this time. The elves by the Third Age have evolved to a certain degree. The elves in the First Age are really messy and screw each other over a lot, and fight and mock each other also. They are the history of Middle Earth, and so they are forever changing. It was really interesting for all of us playing canon characters to be exploring how these characters become what we know them to be.”

The Rings of Power, which is getting early high praise from critics, has a five season plan already in place by the prequel show’s showrunners. This might indicate Galadriel making it to The Third Age of Middle-earth and beyond. There will be a lot of Clark’s version of Galadriel, but perhaps later on in the series, we may see her character evolve into more like Blanchett’s Galadriel.

The Rings of Power star wouldn’t share anymore details to what’s to come. She only teased that Galadriel’s family is a big part of her as a character and there is “lots to be explored.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power can only be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
