Star Trek: Picard Series Finale Opens Up More Spin-off Possibilities

The Star Trek: Picard series finale episode “The Last Generation” gave long-time Trekkies what they have been familiar with — the crew of the Enterprise turning death into a fighting chance to live. Picard Season 3 had viewers on a nostalgic roller coaster ride through the final frontier and even if the series had come to an end, the finale may have set up a new spinoff series to continue the voyages of the new crew of the starship Enterprise.

The Star Trek: Picard Series Finale  Spoilers Below

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 ended with quite an epic episode. It felt like one big movie and some fans may even say is big screen worthy. Bringing the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast back, who haven’t starred together since the disappointing 2002 film, Star Trek: Nemesis, made the third and final season of Picard that much more emotional and memorable. The TNG crew, comprised of Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his old friends Worf (Michale Dorn), Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), and Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden), face another epic battle against the Borg while using a rebuilt Enterprise-D. When they finally destroy the Borg queen and while all seems peaceful again, the epilogue teased a new challenge opening up the possibility of a new spin-off.

How Star Trek: Picard Series Finale Sets Up A Spinoff Series

The Star Trek: Picard finale sees the debut of the new USS Enterprise-G, which was formerly the USS Titan. Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) was promoted to captain of the Enterprise-G with Raffi (Michelle Hurd) as her first officer and Jack Crusher (Ed Speelers) as the captain’s liaison. The three jokingly said they are the most ragtag choice of lead officers Starfleet has ever put together. Tell that to Captain Kirk.

Star Trek fans are already excited to see where the series can boldly go with Seven of Nine, Raffie, and Jack leading the former Titan crew into the 25th Century Star Trek Universe. The Star Trek: Picard finale teased viewers with a couple big things like holding back Captain Seven of Nine’s command catchphrase cutting the scene right into the Enterprise-G going into warp and the finale’s post-credit scene, where Jack Crusher meets Q (John de Lancie) who promises Picard’s son they will have “trials” together. Just like Q and Picard did in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The Star Trek: Picard finale may have given another send-off for the cast of TNG, but it’s possible they may get another chance to boldly go into their own spin-offs. Whether that happens or not, it was quite satisfying to see the TNG crew saving the galaxy, together, one last time.
