Hawkeye Series: Details To Know Before The Disney Plus Show Premieres

Hawkeye series debuts Wednesday, November 24, 2021 on Disney Plus.

Ever since the first Avengers film, fans have been bullseye-baloo about Hawkeye. And come Nov. 24, he’ll have his own series like the rest of the MCU, with the first 2 episodes available for immediate streaming. Here’s what you need to know before Marvel’s Hawkeye series debut.

Hawkeye Series Takes A Different Direction

String your bow and nock your arrows for the Hawkeye series is nearly here! Just two weeks away from airing its first two episodes, fans can already tell that this show is going to take a different direction that most of the MCU. Airing close to Christmas, it hints strongly of John McClane and Kevin McCallister. As Hawkeye doesn’t have superpowers, his sharp aim comes purely from wit, with an extra focus on Christmas spirit.

Project director Amber Templemore-Finlayson admits to Gamesradar that the series is “genuinely not what you would expect from Marvel [Studios]. It’s an absurd Christmas story. And it’s throughout the whole story.” Though Rhys Thomas, part of the directing talent, adds that injecting the Christmas spirit was beyond fun. Safe to say that this series is offering fans something of the unexpected, especially when it comes to such a beloved character. Comic-wise, the series gained further influence for the character based on 2012 writer Matt Fraction and illustrator David Aja.

Hawkeye Timeline

Hawkeye follows the timeline presented to fans at the end of Avengers: Endgame, taking place in New York City. As seen in the trailer and promo posters, snow is falling, Christmas is just around the corner, and Broadway is showing a retelling of Captain America’s life.

Clint Barton (once again played by Jeremy Renner) wants to return to his normal life after the Blip. But it’s harder than it looks, with criminals holding a grudge against him (thanks to Ronin) and Yelena Bolova, an assassin played by Florence Pugh from Black Widow, out for his arrow. To better protect his family, Barton joins forces with a talented young archer named Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld)—who also happens to be his future replacement and fellow fangirl. Annoyingly charming, fans have high hopes that this character will eventually steal the show. As the two archers’ relationship gains wind, a whole new set of problems arise.

Air Date for Hawkeye Series

First announced back in 2019, Hawkeye’s official air date is set for Wednesday, Nov. 24 on Disney+. If you want to watch it, you do have to purchase a subscription, either for $7.99 a month, or $13.99 a month, which tacks on Hulu and ESPN. From now until Nov. 14, there is a special deal for just $1.99, so don’t wait! Marvel plans to release the first two episodes on the same day, ahead of the full series six.

Hawkeye Series Supporting Cast

Besides our main crew, some of the supporting cast in the series are sure to aim straight and true. Vera Farmiga is appearing as Eleanor Bishop, Kate’s mother, and Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne, who is probably Clint’s mentor from the comics. Alaqua Cox is playing Maya Lopez or “Echo”, a deaf Native American girl with the ability to copy fighting styles. (An Echo spinoff show was announced during Disney Plus Day). Fans will also get to see Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez, Maya’s father.

On top of this, Linda Cardellini returns as Clint’s wife, Laura Barton. Hailee Steinfeld is super excited to play Kate Bishop and even took the time to learn the basics of archery. Even though the studio told her they’d be using CGI for the shots, she was still happy to have studied the mechanics.

The Hawkeye series is the last premiering MCU television series of the 2021 year, so don’t hesitate to give it a watch this holiday season. Archers, to your marks!
