The Primetime Emmy Awards 2022 had some big winners on Monday night including Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae, Netflix’s Stranger Things, and HBO’s Succession. The evening was packed with wins that were expected and some truly moving speeches were given.

Even with the latest news about HBO Max being replaced by a new service combined with Discovery Plus by mid-2023, some of the big Emmy winners were HBO shows.

Mike White’s The White Lotus lead the way for HBO’s Emmy dominance with a total of 10 wins including awards to White for directing and limited-series supporting acting awards to Jennifer Coolidge and Murray Bartlett. While The White Lotus won outstanding limited series, Succession won best drama. Euphoria Season 2 took home six Emmys including best actress in a drama for Zendaya. Hacks won three awards including a best actress in a comedy award for Jean Smart.

After Netflix took home 44 awards last year, the streamer settled for second place this year with 24 Emmy wins which most coming from Netflix’s surprise hit series Squid Game. The Korean-based show took home six Emmy Awards including outstanding drama acting for Lee Jung-jae and outstanding drama direction for Hwang Dong-hyuk’s episode “Red Light, Green Light.” This year’s Emmy winners came from technical categories. Netflix’s Stranger Things took home five statues and the League of Legends show Arcane won four. Ted Lasso won three awards in the comedy category.
