The first full trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrived during Super Bowl LVI and Marvel has fans possibly asking one question right now — was that the voice of Patrick Stewart’s playing Professor Xavier?

The Doctor Strange Super Bowl trailer revealed a lot of content but was able to stay mysterious at the same time. Let’s take a deep dive into the scene and see what else it reveals about the first horror film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Let’s get right into that big question. Yes, that does sound like Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his role as X-Men’s Professor Xavier in the Doctor Strange Super Bowl trailer. If it is truly Xavier, it’ll make him the first major X-Men character to appear in the MCU.

But what isn’t that clear is which version of Professor X Patrick Stewart is playing in this reality. It’s obvious it isn’t the one we saw die in 2017’s Logan. Xavier appears to be wearing a black robe similar to his uniform in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Could it be this is a version of Professor X from a universe where the timeline was never undone?

This may be a completely different version of Professor Xavier since this is the multiverse and he may be part of an organization that watches over all realities. In the Doctor Strange Super Bowl trailer, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Steven Strange appears to have been taken prisoner by this group and must answer for his actions against time and space.

There has been some rumors that Marvel Studios will be introducing the Illuminati, a clandestine group of heroes who swore to protect Earth by any means necessary. We may be seeing the Illuminati in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Perhaps, this version was reworked to protect the multiverse rather than just a version of Earth.

This leaves us to wonder who else is working alongside Patrick Stewart’s Professor X. The Doctor Strange Super Bowl trailer didn’t give any more good looks at any other members. It is interesting to see Doctor Strange being escorted by a group of Ultron drones through the headquarters of the multiverse protectors. Does this mean there is a version of Tony Stark and/or Bruce Banner as Illuminati members since they are the ones who created Ultron in the MCU?

We’ll have to wait and see how all this unfolds when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness comes to our reality in theaters on May 6th. You can watch the Super Bowl trailer below.
