Ant-Man Quantumania Post Credits Scenes Set Up MCU’s Next Big Villain

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is now playing in theaters and in good ol’ Marvel Studios fashion, teased how the events of the film will set things up for the MCU’s next phase with two post-credits scenes. The first one sets up the tone for Phase 5. The other teases a fan-favorite antihero.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Spoilers Below

Towards the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, we see Scott Lang a.k.a. Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) walking the streets of San Francisco being greeted by people just like what audiences saw in the beginning of the movie. Scott feels sure that he, Hope Pym a.k.a. The Wasp, Hank Pym a.k.a. the original Ant-Man (Michael Douglas), Janet Van Dyne a.k.a. the original Wasp (Michelle Pfeiffer), Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) and the rebels of the quantum realm have saved the day. They defeated Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), a powerful villain who believes all parallel universes are threats and should be destroyed.

Scott and gang is now reunited and living a normal life once again. The final scene of Quantumania shows the Ant-family celebrating Cassie’s faux-birthday as a way to make up for the ones Scott missed during the time he was gone.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s mid-credits scene, like the film, relies on audiences familiarity with the Marvel multiverse — the multiple parallel timelines happening at once and many versions of the same MCU character. The multiverse was a big part of the Loki series, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Audiences saw variants of Doctor Strange, Wanda Maximoff, Loki, Peter Parker and a Kang variant during Loki’s season one finale.

The Kang variant, or Kang the Conqueror, in Quantumania, was exiled to the quantum realm because of the threat he imposes to the multiverse. Because of the the way time works in the quantum realm, without proper tech to navigate it, you can get trapped in there for a very long time. As Scott explained to Cassie, “it can be 10 seconds or 10 years.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Post-Credits Scenes

The first Ant-Man Quantumania post-credits scene reveals the Kang variants who banished Kang the Conqueror to the quantum realm. In Marvel Comics, they include Immortus, Rama-Tut, Baby Kang, and the Council of Kangs. While they are pleased to know that Ant-Man successfully killed the banished Kang, they also do not like that someone who can kill a Kang is out there in the multiverse. The main three Kangs have assembled an army of Kangs ready to eliminate any threat to their plans. This hints at hunting down and killing Ant-Man and the Avengers in the main MCU timeline. This would require the Avengers to assemble once again in 2025’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Loki Season 2 Teased in the Second Post-Credits Scene

The second Ant-Man Quantumania post-credits scene opens to what seems to be the early 1920s. On stage is a man named Victor Timely. Being played by Jonathan Majors, Timely appears to be another Kang variant. He is up on stage giving a presentation about some kind of science experiment. Maybe something to do with time.

The scene cuts to Timely’s audience and there in the crowd is a nervous-looking Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and standing next to him is Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson). Before the scene ends, Loki tells Mobius that Timely is the “most most fearsome and powerful man he’s ever encountered.”

During the Loki Season 1 finale, Loki and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), a Loki variant, encounter a Kang variant but only referred to as He Who Remains. This Kang variant was in charge of making sure no multiversal war breaks out. He eliminated stray timelines and created the TVA (Time Variance Authority) to make sure all timelines remain as is. Something catastrophic must’ve happened because after meeting He Who Remains, Loki meets up with Mobius, but Mobius doesn’t recognize Loki.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has jump-started Phase 5 of the MCU. It’s interesting to see where everything goes from here on out. Read what we thought about the Marvel movie here.
